Brian Dannelly’s dark Christian comedy “Saved!” picked up grand jury prize for feature film at the ninth Annual Gen Art Film Festival.
UA-distribbed film stars Jena Malone, Mandy Moore and Macaulay Culkin as seniors at a conservative Christian high school trying to make it through their last year.
“I literally had no way to pay for next month’s rent while finishing my next script, so this prize comes in very handy,” Dannelly said of the $10,000 he was awarded.
Jury prize for short film went to Jessica Weigmann for “Gardening Tips for Housewives.”
Filmmaker was awarded $5,000 for her seriocomedy about an upper-middle-class white couple who discovers a black stranger sleeping in their yard.
Audience awards went to Brian Herzlinger, John Gunn and Brett Winn’s doc feature “My Date With Drew,” and Rob Meltzer’s short film “I Am Stamos.”
