Salvatores studies ‘Rules’

Shalev novel adaptation an Italo-Canadian co-prod

Academy Award-winning Italian director Gabriele Salvatores (“Mediterraneo”) has “The Rules of Love” — which is being billed as his first English-lingo project — in the works, with shooting skedded to start next year in Canada.

Project, which has been through a long gestation, is based on a novel by Meir Shalev, “The Loves of Judith.” Novel follows three men contending for the love of one highly perplexing woman, Judith.

“Rules” is being framed as an Italo-Canadian co-prod between Salvatores’ Milan-based Colorado Films shingle, run by Maurizio Totti, and Gabriella Martinelli’s Toronto-based Capri Films.

“Rules” looks set to follow “I’m Not Scared,” a Miramax pickup for the U.S., which is playing on U.S. screens to a healthy per-screen average.
