Record numbers at market

Japan, Oz, Taiwan, Brazil up their Cannes presence

A record high of 8,382 participants from 74 countries had registered for the Cannes Film Market by Monday, well above the 7,880 from 69 countries that attended the market by its close last year.

Countries making their first appearance in the Cannes bazaar include Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cameroon, Kuwait, Senegal, Tunisia, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

Among the major territories, there were significant increases in attendance from Japan, up 20% to 409, and Australia, up 25% to 137. There also were big jumps from Taiwan (up 126% to 61), South Africa (up 73% to 116) and Brazil (up 42% to 85).
