‘Pushers’ lures Danes

Laffer to start shooting in July, helmed by Smallhome

Claire Danes has joined the ensemble cast of “Pushers Needed,” alongside Joan Allen, Kathy Bates and Maggie Smith.

Comedy is the tale of a group of harried, working-class housewives who win a trip to Lourdes to embark on an adventure that will change their lives — leaving their husbands behind to care for their kids.

Pic was written and will be directed by Irish filmmaker Jimmy Smallhome (“2×4”).

Project, structured as an Irish/U.K. co-prod with Dublin-based Parallel Films, will start shooting in July on locations in Dublin and Lourdes.

Producers are Joan Allen, Julia Palau, Evan Todd, Matthew Payne, Alan Moloney, Michael Cowan and Jason Piette. Pic is being financed by Movision, Invicta and the Irish Film Board.

Pic reunites Palau and Payne with Cowan and Piette, with whom they worked last year on “Head in the Clouds.”

Arclight’s Gary Hamilton is handling international sales on pic. ICM Intl.’s Shaun Redick will rep North American rights to pic.
