Paramount Pictures has set up development of a remake of Cecil B. DeMille’s biblical epic “The Ten Commandments” with producer Mark Gordon.
The original, starring Charlton Heston, Anne Baxter, Yul Brynner and Edward G. Robinson, was released in 1956 by Paramount. It received seven Oscar nominations, including best picture, but won only in the special effects category.
Charles Randolph (“The Life of David Gale”) is penning the remake’s script for Gordon, a producer on “The Day After Tomorrow.”
Paramount has been active on the remake front, with “Stepford Wives,” “The Manchurian Candidate” and “Alfie” out this year and “The Longest Yard” in pre-production.
