James-Romano pairing sought to play door-to-door salesmen
New Line Cinema has acquired the William Tepper script “Men Don’t Quit” with visions of pairing “Everybody Loves Raymond” star Ray Romano with “King of Queens” star Kevin James to topline. Jon Klane, Brad Jenkel and Tepper are producing.
James is committed to making the film. While Romano has been involved in script development and the selection of a director, his camp asserts he won’t make a deal until all the elements are in place.
Romano and James, who are pals from the standup comedy circuit, will play friends who team as door-to-door salesman of bulk quantities of frozen meat. The boys are in a slump, and if they don’t move some beef on this particular day, they’re dead meat.
Tepper is an actor-turned-writer best remembered for starring in the Jack Nicholson-directed “Drive, He Said.” Romano and James sparked to this script after toying with several others that would team them. James will be making his feature starring debut, while Romano recently toplined “Eulogy” and the comedy “Welcome to Mooseport,” which bows today.
James is repped by Endeavor, Romano by WMA.
