Filmmakers Milos Forman and Saul Zaentz will pick up lifetime achievement awards at the sixth Netherlands Film by the Sea Festival.
As last year, the 10-day event will be split between Vlissingen, southern Holland, and Scheveningen, the seaside resort of the Hague.
The fest’s main competition turns on films based on literature. Dutch premiere of Michel Gondry’s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” will open the event in Vlissingen Sept. 10.
Fest is feeling the effects of cuts to the arts in Holland. Main competition award has been halved from e10,000 ($12,300) to $6,200. Competish selected so far include German director Achim von Borries’ “Love in Thoughts” and Icelandic lenser Hilmar Oddsson’s “Cold Light.”
Steven Spielberg’s “The Terminal” and Walter Salles’ “The Motorcycle Diaries” are among more than 80 pics to be screened.
