Ten Years of Freedom: Films From the New South Africa will unspool in Gotham April 27-May 2 in celebration of the 10th anni of Nelson Mandela’s election.
Fest will screen 40 docus, shorts, and fiction features made by a new generation of South African directors, many of whom will participate in panels and post-screening discussions throughout the fest.
Invitation-only gala at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, and the North American preem of Mark Kaplan’s “Between Joyce Remembrance” will kick off the fest.
Other highlights include Craig and Damon Foster’s “Cosmic Africa,” about South African astronomer Thebe Medupe.
Pic will screen at the Museum of Natural History Thursday, followed by Q-&-A with Medupe.
Majority of screenings will be held at the Clearview 62nd and Broadway Cinema.
