Myriad mines ‘Silver City’

Oscar-winner Cooper stars as Bush caricature

Myriad Pictures has acquired international rights to John Sayles’ “Silver City” from Sayles’ production company, Anarchists’ Convention. Newmarket Pictures handles domestic distribution.

Oscar-winning thesp Chris Cooper stars in a role that’s a thinly veiled caricature of George W. Bush. During Colorado’s gubernatorial race, a grammatically challenged, born-again candidate for governor fumbles his way to elected office as an unexplained corpse threatens his campaign, the empire of his right-wing allies and the special-interest groups that pull his strings.

The “Silver City” ensemble also includes Maria Bello, Thora Birch, Richard Dreyfuss, Daryl Hannah, Danny Huston, Kris Kristofferson, Mary Kay Place and Tim Roth.

Written, directed and edited by Sayles, the political satire is produced by Anarchists’ partner Maggie Renzi. Newmarket plans to release the pic Sept. 17.

Myriad will present the pic to foreign buyers at the Cannes Market.
