London goes ‘Lavender’

Twenty-five pics will screen during 3-day film event

Charles Dance’s “Ladies in Lavender,” Danny Boyle’s “Millions,” the Shane Meadows pic “Dead Man’s Shoes” and Andrew Goth’s horror movie “Cold and Dark” are among the world premieres lined up for the first London U.K. Film Focus, to be held June 30-July 2.

More than 25 pics will screen during the three-day event, which is intended as a sales platform for British movies. Around 120 buyers from around the world are being invited to London for the screenings, which are being bankrolled by the U.K. Film Council and Film London.

“This important initiative brings buyers from around the world to London and shows them new British films and talent,” said Film Council chief exec John Woodward.

The gala premiere of “Ladies in Lavender” will take place July 29. Film London and the U.K. Media Desk will host a reception June 30, and the British Film Institute will host a preem of an unspecified pic July 1.
