Kidman, Shore to be feted

Actress to receive chairman's award

Academy Award winners Nicole Kidman and Howard Shore will receive special kudos at the 16th annual Palm Springs Film Festival.

Kidman, a Golden Globe actress nominee for “Birth,” will be honored with the chairman’s award for “her passion for challenging and unusual material.” Alejandro Amenabar, who directed her in “The Others,” will present the laurels.

Shore, who scored Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator,” will receive the Frederick Loewe Award. The composer is a double Oscar winner for his “Lord of the Rings” music.

Duo will be feted at the fest’s annual gala on Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Kirk Douglas, Kevin Spacey, Samuel L. Jackson, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney and Bryce Dallas Howard will also be honored.
