Jarmusch will journey to Provincetown for nod

Indie filmmaker receiving 'Edge' award

BOSTON — Indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch will be the sixth recipient of the Filmmaker on the Edge award at the 2004 Provincetown Film Festival, to be held June 16-20 in Provincetown, Mass.

Award comes 20 years after Jarmusch burst on the indie scene with “Stranger Than Paradise.” This year will see the release of his latest film, “Coffee and Cigarettes.”

Provincetown fest often attracts past winners back to subsequent festivals. John Waters, a 1999 winner, has returned each year to present a film he’s personally selected to introduce based upon, according to fest organizers, his standards of raunchiness and bad taste.

Full schedule for the fest, which will include this year’s camp audience favorite — the singalong “Wizard of Oz” — will be posted at Ptownfilmfest.org.

Past winners of the award include Todd Haynes, Christine Vachon and Gus Van Sant.
