Peter Sarsgaard has been set to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx in “Jarhead,” the Sam Mendes-directed adaptation of Anthony Swofford’s Gulf War memoir for Universal Pictures. Production on the William Broyles-scripted film begins today, with Red Wagon partners Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher producing.
Sarsgaard was just nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in the supporting actor category for “Kinsey.” He will play Troy, a member of an elite Marine sniper unit who befriends and mentors scribe Swoff (Gyllenhaal). Foxx plays Sgt. Siekh, who heads up the sniper squadron that experiences the terror, humor and uncertainty of a fight in the blazing desert against an enemy they can’t see.
Sarsgaard, best known for “Shattered Glass” and “Boys Don’t Cry,” recently wrapped Universal’s “The Skeleton Key” alongside Kate Hudson. He’ll also star opposite Jodie Foster in “Flightplan” and in Craig Lucas-directed pic “The Dying Gaul.”
