Plummer-narrated pic reunites Cineplex Odeon exex

Global Cinema Group has acquired international distribution rights to “The Gospel of John,” the three-hour chronicle on the last three years of Jesus’ life as attributed to his disciple John. Pic was directed by Philip Saville based on John Goldsmith’s script and stars Henry Ian Cusick as Christ in the pic narrated by Christopher Plummer and produced by Garth Drabinsky. Exec producers are Sandy Pearl, Joel B. Michaels, Myron Gottlieb and Martin Katz.

Pic was screened as a special presentation at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival. Project also reunites Global Cinema Group prexy Peter Elson with his former Cineplex Odeon colleagues in Drabinsky, Michaels, Gottlieb and Pearl.

Visual Bible Intl. is the parent company of the producer of “John,” and controls the rights to distribute pic. VBI previously had a deal with Cinemavault Releasing to handle sales on the pic but that was terminated and VBI has since inked a deal with Global Cinema Group to be the sole international sales agent.
