‘Fish’ catches attention of Weaving, Neill

Woods-helmed pic to begin lensing in October

Hugo Weaving and Sam Neill are in negotiations to join Cate Blanchett and Martin Henderson in the crime thriller “Little Fish.” Myriad Pictures is handling worldwide sales on pic, excluding Australia and New Zealand.

Pic, which marks Australian director Rowan Woods’ second pic, is set to start shooting on location in Oz in October.

Penned by Jacquelin Perske, pic is produced by Sheehan and Watts’ Porchlight Films in conjunction with Icon and the FFC. It’s an emotionally charged thriller in which a girl clings to the hope of a new life as her brother and ex-boyfriend threaten to destroy her chance of happiness by embarking on one last criminal venture.

Weaving most recently starred in “The Matrix” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogies. O’Neill appeared in TV miniseries “Doctor Zhivago.”
