Country artists band together for ‘Terrifico’

Mabbott spins tale of music and murder

Outlaw country artists Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard and Ronnie Hawkins star in Michael Mabbott’s “The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico,” which is finishing principal photography in Toronto.

Written and directed by Mabbott, “Guy Terrifico” concerns a Canadian country-rock superstar caught in a swirl of whiskey, pills and canceled shows who’s gunned down in 1971. However, a new album 30 years later raises questions about his death.

Cast includes Levon Helm, Phil Kaufman, members of Blue Rodeo, Donnie Fritts and Stephen Bruton.

Darius Films is producing. Alliance Atlantis is handling pic in Canada and Thousand Words has rights to the rest of the world.

Pic’s completion is expected in late August and producer Nicholas Tabarrok, prexy of Darius Films, anticipates taking the pic to 2005’s Sundance, Berlin and Cannes.
