‘Childhood’ takes on bus hijacking

World Brief

Helmer Bruno Barreto (“View From the Top”) has teamed up with screenwriter Braulio Mantovani (“City of God”) on “Wicked Childhood,” about the real-life hijacking of a Rio de Janeiro bus that ended with the deaths of a hostage and the hijacker.

Hijacking became the subject of docu “Bus 174” by helmer Jose Padilha.

“The psychological drama will focus on the relationship of Sandro do Nascimento, the hijacker, and his adopted mother,” said Padilha, whose Zazen Producoes will produce the pic.

Lensing is slated for September in Rio.

The Portuguese-lingo pic will have a budget of $3 million to $4 million, large by Brazilian standards.
