Capistrano climbs ‘Mountain’

Indie shingle pleads the 'Fifth'

Brazilian scribe Paulo Coehlo — whose novel “The Alchemist” was picked up last year by Warner Bros. as a vehicle for Laurence Fishburne to write, direct and topline — has sold rights on his bible-inspired tome “The Fifth Mountain” to indie shingle Capistrano Films.

Published by Perennial, “Mountain” follows the life of Old Testament prophet Elijah.

Capistrano brass said Coehlo has been overseeing the “Mountain” script, which is being developed with an eye toward a fall start date. Antonio Soave is writer and producer on the project.

Capistrano is scouting locations in Spain, Morocco and Hungary.

Coehlo’s spiritual lit also includes “The Pilgrimage,” “By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept” and “Warrior of the Light: A Manual.”

Capistrano’s credits include the Martin Sheen/Renee Estevez starrer “Mercy of the Sea” and PBS’ “Fate Did Not Let Me Go.”
