Firm captures 'Lightning' pic
Lightning Entertainment has acquired international sales rights to blues concert film “Lightning in a Bottle,” directed by Antoine Fuqua and exec produced by Martin Scorsese.
Pic follows on from Lightning previously handling foreign sales on “Standing in the Shadows of Motown.”
“Bottle” will be released by Sony Pictures Classics in the U.S. in October and will screen May 15 in Cannes. Pic also has a special presentation at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.
Concert film takes the viewer through the historical and geographical journey of the blues beginning with its roots in Africa up through the Mississippi Delta into the cities of Memphis and Chicago in the 1950s and ’60s and follows the music to England and back to the USA.
Company has also picked up international sales rights to the Russian-themed actioner “Moscow Heat,” starring Alexander Nevsky.
Pic, directed by Jeff Celentano, also stars Michael York, Adrian Paul, Richard Tyson, Joanna Pacula and Robert Madrid.
Revenge thriller is the story of a retired diplomat and an LAPD detective who pursue a psychotic murderer from the U.S. to Moscow.
Nevsky co-wrote the screenplay with Madrid and co-produced the pic with Alexander Izotov through Czar Pictures.
