'Magicians' to be centerpiece of sprocket opera
The 27th Asian American Intl. Film Festival will open July 16 with the U.S. preem of Hong Kong director Ann Hui’s “Goddess of Mercy.”
The thriller stars Zhao Wei and Nicholas Tse.
Buddhist monk-turned-filmmaker Khyentse Norbu’s “Travelers and Magicians,” about a Bhutanese man and his desires to come to America, will unspool as the centerpiece presentation on July 23. The film was recently acquired by Zeitgeist Films.
Fest closes July 24 with the screening of “Tomorrow May Never Come” from Nikhil Advani.
Other highlights include the presentation of an emerging director award and an advanced screening of New Line’s “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.”
Screenings will be held at the Asia Society and ImaginAsian Theater.
