‘Arisan!’ takes two at Indonesian fest

Pic is Indonesia's first film to depict gay life

JAKARTA — Helmer Nia diNata’s “Arisan!” won the Citra award for pic and actor (Tora Sudiro) Saturday at this year’s Indonesian Film Festival ,which made its comeback after a 12-year hiatus.

A feel-good satire about the nouveau riche, “Arisan!” is Indonesia’s first film to depict gay life. Title of pic, which screened at the 2004 Turin Gay and Lesbian Festival, refers to a monthly get-together of wives.

“Ada apa dengan cinta?” (What’s Happening to Cinta?) won director honors for Rudi Soedjarwo and actress honors for Dian Sastrowardoyo.

“Eiffel … I’m in Love,” a Soraya Intercine Films production, won the H. Antemas award as B.O. champion. It’s also the country’s all-time B.O. champ with 4 million admissions.
