BAFTA/LA threatens to dismiss rude members

The Brits have decided to nip “rude and boorish” behavior in the bud.

BAFTA/LA sent out warning letters after receiving complaints regarding “members who verbally abuse parking attendants, demand free food at public theater concession stands, complain about the selection of food being served at receptions and refuse to line up when requested by theater management.” Such members are in danger of suspension or termination, the letter warns.

The letter from BAFTA/LA chairman Gary Dartnall says behavior at the Screenings and Events Program needs to be addressed by the staff and board because such actions affect the reputation of the academy.

A spokesman for BAFTA/LA said the letter is an internal matter arising from the behavior of one or two people.

“This is a matter we are dealing with internally, and we consider it good housekeeping on behalf of BAFTA/LA,” the spokesman said. “As there is no excuse for impoliteness at our events, this letter has found overwhelming support from our membership.”
