BAFTA brews genteel bash

Minghella, Jackson, Watts among attendees

The Brit contingent gathered at the St. Regis Hotel Jan. 24 for BAFTA/LA’s traditional day-before tea party during Golden Globes weekend.

Fete drew Anthony Minghella, Jude Law, Peter Jackson and Naomi Watts along with Sarah Ferguson, otherwise known as the Duchess of York.

Board member John Houlton described the affair as “the classy calm before the storm.”

BAFTA/LA chair Gary Dartnall, meanwhile, took a genteel dig at the studios: “We’ve had to see so many films since we didn’t get the screeners, this is our first chance to relax and have a cup of tea.”
