One year to the day after the launch of its digital TV platform Digital Plus, Spain’s dominant pay TV operator Sogecable is cutting prices to lure viewers.
Sogecable managing director Carlos Abad announced Tuesday that Digital Plus would offer a new premium package, Canal Plus Familiar, for just E21.98 ($27.34), from Aug. 1.
It has three versions of Sogecable’s popular 14-year-old premium movie/sports channel, Canal Plus Espana, plus two Disney channels.
Digital Plus subs previously had to pay $44.30 for Canal Plus and its multiplexed versions.
Canal Plus Familiar is tabbed at just $6 more than the analog, single-channel Canal Plus Espana, inviting viewers to migrate to Digital Plus.
Sogecable also has slashed prices for firstrun pay-per-view movies from $4.70 to $3.60 for all Digital Plus subscribers. Subs to super-premium offer Digital Plus Total get PPV movies for $1.90.
