Fest to promote tyro helmers on homevid

LONDON — The U.K.’s Raindance Film Festival is planning to launch its own DVD label with video outfit Anchor Bay Entertainment.

The venture will release six to 10 titles a year, primarily featuring movies from Raindance lineups that didn’t get U.K. distribution. First release is scheduled for September.

Raindance is among the U.K.’s leading indie fests and focuses on first-time British helmers. The 12th edition will take place Oct. 1-10.

The offshoot Raindance East Film Fest runs April 23-29 and showcases promising work from London’s East End. “The Cooler” will open the third East fest, which will also include a night of hip-hop documentaries and freestyle battles.

Anchor Bay specializes in retro and cult horror titles such as the “Evil Dead” trilogy.

Martin Myers, co-founder of First Independent, has been drafted to help source films and develop marketing strategies for the startup distrib.
