Collection contains monologues, TV segs, interviews, docu

HOLLYWOOD — Just days after esteemed talkshow pioneer Jack Paar died late last month, Shout! Factory has announced that it will release a DVD collection of Paar TV programming on March 30.

Three-disc “Jack Paar Collection” ($29.98) contains more than six hours of monologues, segments and full episodes from “The Tonight Show” and the “Jack Paar Program”; the acclaimed 2003 PBS documentary “Jack Paar: Smart Television”; and new interviews with Dick Cavett, Regis Philbin, Hugh Downs and the Smothers Brothers.

Collection was produced by LSL Prods., a new company formed by television producers David Leaf, John Scheinfeld and Steve Ligerman.

The “Smart Television” doc, which debuted on PBS last year, contains the first Beatles footage aired on American television; the only U.S. on-camera interview in which Fidel Castro speaks in English; and Woody Allen’s “The Inferiority Complex” comedy sketch.

Also included are six of Paar’s favorite monologues and his complete interviews with Richard Nixon, Billy Graham, Barry Goldwater, Robert Kennedy, then-Senator John F. Kennedy and Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), who was paired with Liberace.
