Singles available on mobiles before stores

O2 Germany, the German arm of mobile operator MMO2, has struck a deal with Sony Music Germany to deliver new singles to mobile customers two weeks before the CDs hit stories. These tracks will be offered as part of its O2 Musicpack service (which runs under the O2 Music name elsewhere).

More than 35,000 songs on the Sony music label will be available for download from O2 Germany’s online music shop, which also offers more than 100,000 tracks from other leading publishers and is the first in the German market. Tracks may be downloaded for as little as E0.99 ($1.20).

MMO2 wants to strike similar pre-release deals with other music companies, and to offer services in the U.K. and Ireland.
