Fox is hoping to rake in some holiday d’oh by releasing a special “Simpsons Christmas 2” DVD on Nov. 2 and a collector’s edition of “The Simpsons” fifth season on DVD Dec. 21.
More than 6 million DVD copies of various “Simpsons” releases have been purchased so far, according to Fox. Consumers have already spent more than $35 million on the fourth-season set released in June, according to Daily Variety sister publication DVD Exclusive.
The four-disc set for season five features the 22 episodes, including the 100th episode; an introduction by creator Matt Groening; commentary on every episode and illustrated commentaries; a featurette with James L. Brooks; multi-angle animation showcases on selected episodes; deleted scenes; commercials; and sketches.
The 89-minute Christmas-themed DVD includes four holiday-themed episodes: “Homer vs. Dignity,” “Skinner’s Sense of Snow,” “Tis the 15th Season” and “Dude, Where’s My Ranch?”
