Led development at Fox Sports, Speed Channel

GSN, the network for games, has hired Zig I. Gauthier as vice president of original programming.

Gauthier, a former programming exec at Sci Fi Channel and development head at Fox Sports Net, will be based in Santa Monica and report to GSN senior VP of programming Ian Valentine.

Exec will be charged with developing projects and overseeing production on some current series. Gauthier also will be responsible for scouting fresh talent and exploring alternative programming formats.

“Zig Gauthier is a smart, plugged-in guy with great relationships and tons of TV knowledge,” Valentine said.

Gauthier led development at both Fox Sports and Fox-owned Speed Channel, where his credits include the strip “The Sports List” and pilots with Michael Strahan and Barry Josephson.

Exec also developed Sci Fi reality skeins “Scare Tactics” and “Mad Mad House” while he was VP of alternative programming for the cabler.

Gauthier began his programming career at FBC in the comedy development and later moved to Fox TV Studios, where he oversaw series including “Son of the Beach,” “The Test” and “Sports Geniuses.”
