Eamon tops chart

Fornightly sales numbers launched for cell phones

Pop artist Eamon has emerged at the top of the first ringtones chart to provide accurate data for the U.K. market, with a ringtone from the track “I Don’t Want You Back.”

The chart, published on Tuesday, was compiled by the Mobile Entertainment Forum, the worldwide trade body for the mobile entertainment sector, in collaboration with KPMG, the global professional services firm. Participating aggregators include Amplefuture, Buongiorno/Vitaminic, Infomedia, Musiwave, Opera and Phonefurniture.

The chart, which will be published every two weeks, is intended to become the authoritative sales chart for the U.K. mobile music entertainment industry.

Analysts at Informa Media Group estimate that Brits spent £90 million ($165 million) on ringtones in 2003.
