Advertising boosts MSNBC.com

After eight years of losses, NBC/Microsoft joint venture MSNBC.com has finally made it into the black.

Site launched in 1996 together with the MSNBC cable net; aim was to create the first fully integrated online and onscreen news operation. While the news channel continues to struggle behind Fox News and CNN, MSNBC.com has become one of the Web’s top news sites.

Netco has also benefited from the recent boom in online advertising. Company said over 70 advertisers spent more than $100,000 in the quarter ended June 30, taking it to profitability.
