Weta 'Rings' team set to work on Kiwi-lensed pic
Focus Features has come onboard to handle international sales on a live-action feature based on Capcom’s bestselling vidgame “Onimusha.”
Samuel Hadida’s Davis Films is producing with Japan’s Gaga Communications. Focus will handle sales in all territories excluding France, where Metropolitan will distribute pic, and Japan, where Gaga retains all rights.
Oscar winner Richard Taylor and his Weta SFX team (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy) will work on the pic, which starts shooting in New Zealand in the second quarter of 2005.
Keiji Inafune created the game.
Hadida, Capcom and Gaga established a relationship on “Resident Evil” and its sequel.
Capcom recently marketed the third “Onimusha” game, which stars Jean Reno and Takeshi Kaneshiro and has sold close to 1 million units since its release in Japan.
Gaga also optioned rights to Capcom game “Devil May Cry.”
