Cablevision’s ready to play

iO service adding interactive puzzle, arcade games

Cablevision is launching the first on-demand cable gaming service, offering users of its iO digital cable service interactive games as part of a subscription package.

Service offers users seven simple word, puzzle and arcade games for $4.95 per month and will soon add casino games like blackjack and poker. Players can compete against a computer-generated opponent or other iO Games users.

On-demand games on computers are one of the fastest-growing segments of the vidgame space and the only one that appeals equally to men and women, as well as to a broader range of ages than youth-oriented console games.

Cablevision has over 1 million subscribers to iO. Trials for the on-demand games began late last year.

Games on the new service were developed by Visionik, which will regularly update it with new titles, while the iO Games interface was created by design house Schematic.
