Vidgamer makes homevid sequel

Game followup to take form of DVD feature

Vidgame publisher Square Enix is releasing a unique sequel to its 1997 hit “Final Fantasy VII” in the form of a direct-to-DVD CGI animated feature.

“Final Fantasy VII Advent Children” continues the story of the game, which sold over 9 million units worldwide.

No release date has been set for the sequel, but Square Enix is surely hoping the new low-cost direct-to-DVD strategy will prove a bigger success than 2001’s poorly performing feature based on the “Final Fantasy” series. Despite that, “Final Fantasy” has continued to prosper in the gaming world, with “Final Fantasy XII” set to be released in 2005.
