The one-hour season finale of “Friends” will be out on DVD on May 11 — just five days after the episode airs on NBC.
The DVD will include two versions of the series’ last episode: the broadcast version of the two-part episode that wraps up the series, and a DVD-only version with extra unaired footage. Also included will be the series’ 1994 pilot episode.
Disc’s release comes before the previous three seasons have been put out on DVD. Last year Warner started releasing DVD sets of each season. The first five season-sets generated $75 million collectively in consumer spending last year, according to Variety sister publication DVD Exclusive. Season 6 was released in January and Season 7 was released last month.
No announcements have been made for the release of the eighth, ninth and 10th seasons.
Another recent series finale released on DVD as a single episode was the last episode of the WB network’s “Dawson’s Creek,” which ended its five-season run a year ago.
