SABC employee arrested on piracy charges

World Brief

An employee of the South African Broadcasting Corp. has been arrested on charges of piracy following investigations by the Recording Industry of South Africa and an internal audit by the SABC.

The man, who worked in the music library at SABC’s headquarters in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, allegedly used the pubcaster’s resources to copy and distribute CDs, DVDs and movies, SABC spokesman Paul Setsetse said.

SABC chief exec Peter Matlare welcomed the arrest, saying it showed SABC’s commitment to protecting the rights of artists and music producers.
