Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

I am writing regarding Phil Gallo’s review of my PBS series, “Inside the Tuscan Hills” (Daily Variety, Dec. 12). Mr. Gallo obviously has more than a passing interest in wine, and as I was a Senior Editor of Wine & Spirits Magazine for 4 years, I share that interest. But he seems to have mistaken my series about Tuscany’s artisans and traditional culture for one devoted to wine. He spends 90% of his review commenting on what we supposedly got wrong about wine, when less than 10% of the show even discusses the subject. Mr. Gallo should have paid more attention to what the show was actually about – celebrating the diverse traditional culture of rural Tuscany, than what he wanted it to be – 3 hours of wine-geek minutiae.
