Inside Move: Scarborough’s fair game after stumping for Bush

MSNBC doesn't mind yakker host attending president's event

The partisan news net wars saw another skirmish Tuesday as conservative MSNBC talkshow host Joe Scarborough rallied for President Bush during a campaign stop in Pensacola, Fla.

Scarborough, a former Republican U.S. congressman from Florida, was spotted onstage behind Bush, clapping and doing all the other things a good supporter does.

But MSNBC seemed to have no problem with the appearance by Scarborough, host of the cable net’s “Scarborough Country” at 10 p.m. ET.

“Joe Scarborough hosts an opinion show and is not a news anchor. Therefore we did not have a problem with him attending the president’s event today,” an MSNBC spokesman said.

Some within NBC News, however, questioned whether Fox News — which provided pool coverage of Tuesday’s Bush rally — intentionally shot wide enough to show Scarborough sitting behind and to the right of Bush.

It’s usually Fox News Channel that takes heat for favoring the Bush administration.
