Daytime Emmys hosts impromptu pep rally

HOLLYWOOD — It was a good news-bad news sort of weekend for Martha Stewart.

Allegations that a Secret Service handwriting analyst who testified in Stewart’s insider trading case perjured himself had Stewart’s lawyers calling for a new trial. Charges against the analyst were revealed Friday, just hours before Stewart attended the 31st Daytime Emmy Awards.

What’s more, Stewart can take comfort from knowing some industryites attending Friday’s Radio City Music Hall kudocast apparently are still rooting for her. As she walked toward her seat, a big chunk of the crowd erupted into spontaneous applause, according to one source who witnessed the impromptu pep rally for the domestic diva.

On the other hand, someone at Dick Clark Prods. — which produced Friday’s Emmycast — couldn’t help taking an indirect shot at Stewart. Following a pre-taped packaged highlighting the “year in crime” as seen on daytime sudsers, the live cameras immediately cut to a shot of … convicted criminal Stewart.
