Exec takes over for recently promoted Speier

Dade Hayes has been named managing editor of Special Reports, it was announced by Editor-in-Chief Peter Bart.

Hayes had been assistant managing editor, Daily Variety, supervising the launch of Daily Variety‘s Perspectives page and overseeing select Variety features as well as book and DVD reviews. In 2000, he became a senior editor after joining the paper in 1999 as a film reporter.

Before joining Variety, he worked as a reporter for Investor’s Business Daily, the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press.

A graduate of Oberlin College, Hayes grew up in suburban New York. He and his wife, Stella, have a 7-month-old daughter, Margot.
