Reding named Information Society Directorate General
BRUSSELS — European Commission culture czar Viviane Reding will remain in charge of European Union audiovisual policy and the Media program supporting Euro film in the new team of EC president-elect Jose Manuel Barroso.
Reding had been carrying out these key media functions as commissioner for education, culture, youth, media and sport, a post she’s held since 1999. She now moves to the Information Society Directorate General, taking parts of her former portfolio with her.
Reding’s appointment must be approved by the European Parliament. She is due to take up her new post Nov. 1.
