Tarantino, Besson in piracy talkfest

Funding org holds seminar before Cannes fest opener

PARIS — French director-producer Luc Besson and Quentin Tarantino, prexy of the jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, will be among the participants of a seminar on anti-piracy in Cannes, organized by France’s funding org, the Centre National du Cinema (CNC), and the Association for the Fight Against Audiovisual Piracy.

Also present will be Cannes fest topper Gilles Jacob, Canal Plus prexy Bertrand Meheut, as well as David Kessler, head of the CNC.

The seminar, which takes place May 11, a day before the fest opens, will bring together producers, actors, distribs, and exhibs, as well as telecom and internet folk to “take measure of the risk of piracy in France and in the world.” Organizers will also unveil new studies on the practices of content pirates.
