Horror helmer George Romero has been sued by producer Patriot Pictures for reneging on an agreement to direct the film “Maledictus.”
According to the complaint filed Thursday in L.A. Superior Court, Romero entered into a written agreement in February to direct a film written by Vladimir Perlovich. According to the agreement attached to the complaint, Romero was to receive fixed compensation ranging from $250,000 to $750,000, depending on the budget and control of the film, plus box office bonuses and contingent compensation.
Patriot alleges that Romero, best known for “Night of the Living Dead” and its various permutations, backed out of the deal because of his ability to command higher fees based on his stellar reputation in the supernatural genre.
Patriot seeks $25 million in damages in the breach-of-contract suit.
