Yanks have kudos in the Cannes

Chernin named Mipcom 2003 Personality of the Year

CANNES — Franco-American relations may be rock bottom but the entente was très cordiale at the Mipcom TV mart as Hollywood big guns Warren Lieberfarb and Peter Chernin, above, grabbed all the kudos. News Corp. prexy and COO Chernin’s moment of glory came at a glitzy gathering when Reed Midem CEO Paul Zilk named him Mipcom 2003 Personality of the Year. As well as the usual statuette, Chernin received a handsome but hefty 35lb Cartier Black Panther statue, which must have taken some explaining to U.S. customs officers back in L.A. Lieberfarb, former WB HomeVideo prexy, received Mipcom’s Lifetime Achievement ward and France’s highest cultural honor, a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres medal for championing DVD.
