'I Love' format sees 82% rise from last year ago period
A weeklong wave of nostalgia yielded strong numbers for VH1.
Ten-part “I Love the 80s Strikes Back” averaged more than 1.2 million total viewers during its run Oct. 20-24. Increase was 82% compared with the same period last year. In 18-49 demo, show averaged a 0.9 and 964,000 viewers. Delivery growth in that demo was an even more impressive 123% from the same period last year.
“Strikes Back” is the latest and most successful iteration of the “I Love the …” franchise. Original 1980s installment ran in December and brought in a 0.9 rating, but only 861,000 18-49 viewers. August airing of “I Love the 70s” attracted 884,000 adults 18-49.
For the week, highest point of the series was Oct. 21 for the show on 1983. That segment, which featured topics from videogame “Donkey Kong” to pet snack, Snausages, attracted 1.4 million viewers 18-49. Delivery tied with VH1 record of Dec. 2000 for telepic, “A Diva’s Christmas Carol.”
Success of “Strikes Back” carried over to new skeins “True Spin” and “Super Secret TV Formulas” which aired afterward. Both shows rated 0.7, with a 75% increase for “True Spin” and a 112% spike for “TV Formulas.”
