TV journos unite against censors

Some 200 TV reporters have formed a union, the Federation of Radio & TV Specialists, to fight state control of Moldova’s broadcast airwaves as dictated by its new media law.

The union will help to transform national state-owned net TeleRadio Moldova (TRM) into a pubcaster, akin to the BBC in the U.K. Union members don’t want TRM to become a propaganda outlet for the government.

In a bid to give the union political muscle, organizers are canvassing regional state broadcasters for new members; they also will accept Internet reporters and publishers.
