Co. moving beyond toons to a live-action channel

KOLKATA — Turner Broadcasting’s Turner Intl. India is bowing Pogo, a new channel for Indian children.

Pogo will join Turner’s popular Cartoon Network brand, which has aired in India since 1995. Pogo will include dramas, comedies, movies, animation and documentaries.

“Moving beyond animation to a kids’ live-action channel, Pogo is a first for Turner, not only in India but for Turner Broadcasting worldwide,” says Turner Intl. India managing director Anshuman Misra.

Programming on Pogo has been divided into Young Kids, Kids Prime and Family and Special Events. For the youngest members of the family, Pogo offers “Barney & Friends,” “Boohbah,” “Teletubbies,” “Miffy & Friends,” “Tweenies” and “Ethelbert the Tiger.” Older kids are in for “Brum,” “Hi-5,” “The Sleepover Club” and “Beakman’s World.”

On the anvil are movies and docus, including “Wallace & Gromit,” “Mr. Bean — The Animated Series,” “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” and the “Walking With … ” franchise.

Pogo will hit the airwaves Jan. 1 via PAS-10 satellite. New channel will source programs from production companies including Ragdoll, the BBC and Hit Entertainment.
