Judges rule ratings, while game shows lose out
It was a good week for justice in the syndie biz.
All seven courtroom shows saw their numbers skew upwards, most in the double digits. Overall, strips reported mixed results, due in part to strong competition from cable news channels and the incursion of daylight savings time.
“Divorce Court” and “Texas Justice” came off their lowest numbers of the season, increasing 17% and 21% respectively. Higher ranked shows such as “Judge Judy” (up 2%) and “Judge Joe Brown” (up 10%) gained, finishing the week in the top 15.
Game shows, however, did not enjoy a similar upward mobility. Top-rated “Wheel of Fortune” was down 9% with an 8.5 rating. Second-ranked “Jeopardy,” with a 6.9 rating, was also down 5%. Meanwhile, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” crept up 3% with a 3.3 rating.
Hardest hit was “Live with Regis and Kelly.” Talker, in repeats last week, fell 17% to 2.9. Latter tied in the rankings with “Maury.”
“Blind Date” continued to lead among all relationship strips. It finished the week with a 1.7 rating.
