Lucy Liu, Erik Estrada and Elizabeth Pena will be among the actors lending their voices to new Scholastic animated series, “The Misadventures of Maya and Miguel.”
Skein follows the adventures of 10-year-old Latino twins Maya and Miguel, particularly the scrapes caused by Maya’s meddling. Series was conceived by Scholastic Entertainment prexy Deborah Forte, who also serves as exec producer, as part of org’s multimedia initiative that emphasizes Latino children (Daily Variety, June 3.)
Lead voices will be provided by Candi Milo (“Chalk Zone,” “Mucha Lucha”) and Nika Futterman (“Piggly Winks.”) Liu will lend her voice to play Maggie, Maya’s best friend. Estrada will voice the role of Sr. Felipe, the neighborhood mailman. Pena (“Lone Star,” “La Bamba”) will lend her voice to Rosa, mother of the twins.
Lupe Ontiveros, Carlos Ponce and Carlos Alazrqui round out the cast.
Series, which targets 6- to 8-year-olds, will launch as a daily strip on PBS Kids in fall 2004.
