Australia’s Southern Star has confirmed plans to launch a production outpost in Asia, based in Singapore, and has unveiled its maiden venture: animated series “The Adventures of Battle Top Bill.”Produced by Southern Star’s Noel Price, the 26-episode show has been pre-sold to the U.K.’s Five and Oz pubcaster ABC. Budgeted at $A6.7 million ($4.7 million), skein will be produced with the help of the Economic Development Board of Singapore. Southern Star Entertainment CEO Hugh Marks said the outpost will enable the company to grow revenues outside its traditional markets and to develop partnerships with players in broadcasting and production. Separately, Southern Star Sales has sold Oz reality hit “The Block” and the rights to produce local versions in Denmark, Sweden and Norway to TV2 Denmark. Format already has sold to SBS in Belgium and the Netherlands, France’s M6, Canada’s Global TV and Africa’s M-Net. Deals are in final negotiation for Finland, Germany, New Zealand and Poland.
